  프란치스코 교황의 평화를 위한 기도:

   

  Lord God of peace, hear our prayer!

  We have tried so many times and over so many years to resolve our conflicts by our own powers and by the force of our arms. How many moments of hostility and darkness have we experienced; how much blood has been shed; how many lives have been shattered; how many hopes have been buried… But our efforts have been in vain.

   

  평화의 하느님, 저희의 기도를 들어주소서.

  저희는 저희의 힘과 무력으로 평화를 이루리라 생각하고 노력했지만, 그런 우리의 노력은 헛된 것이었나이다. 오히려 이로 인해 적대감과 어둠의 순간이 덮치고, 많은 이들이 피를 흘리고 죽게 됨으로 저희의 희망은 묻혀버렸나이다.

   

  Now, Lord, come to our aid! Grant us peace, teach us peace; guide our steps in the way of peace. Open our eyes and our hearts, and give us the courage to say: “Never again war!”; “With war everything is lost”. Instill in our hearts the courage to take concrete steps to achieve peace.

   

  주님, 저희를 도우소서! 평화를 주시고, 평화를 가르쳐 주시어, 우리의 발걸음을 평화의 길로 이끌어 주소서. 저희의 눈과 마음을 열어주시어 “전쟁으로 모든 것을 잃음“을 각성하고 “다시는 전쟁을 하지 말라!” 고 외칠 수 있는 용기를 주시어 평화를 위해 일하게 하소서.

   

  Lord, God of Abraham, God of the Prophets, God of Love, you created us and you call us to live as brothers and sisters. Give us the strength daily to be instruments of peace; enable us to see everyone who crosses our path as our brother or sister. Make us sensitive to the plea of our citizens who entreat us to turn our weapons of war into implements of peace, our trepidation into confident trust, and our quarreling into forgiveness.

   

  아브라함의 하느님, 예언자들의 하느님, 사랑의 하느님, 당신은 저희를 창조하시고 우리 모두가 형제자매로 살도록 부르셨나이다. 저희를 평화의 도구가 되게 하소서; 세상의 모든 이들이 우리의 형제요 자매임을 깨닫게 하시어, 평화를 간절히 원하는 형제자매들의 간절한 바람에 귀 기울이게 하시어 전쟁 무기를 평화의 도구로, 두려움을 확신에 찬 신뢰로, 다툼을 용서로 바꾸게 하소서.

   

  Keep alive within us the flame of hope, so that with patience and perseverance we may opt for dialogue and reconciliation. In this way may peace triumph at last, and may the words “division”, “hatred” and “war” be banished from the heart of every man and woman. Lord, defuse the violence of our tongues and our hands. Renew our hearts and minds, so that the word which always brings us together will be “brother”, and our way of life will always be that of: Shalom, Peace, Salaam! Amen.

   

  인내와 끈기로 대화와 화해를 선택하게 하시어 우리 안에 희망의 불꽃이 살아나게 하소서. 마침내 평화가 승리하고 “분열“, “증오“, “전쟁“이라는 단어가 모든 형제자매의 마음에서 사라지게 하소서. 주여, 우리의 말과 행동의 폭력을 물리쳐 주소서. 우리의 마음과 생각을 새롭게 하여 우리를 항상 하나로 모으는 말씀이 “형제“가 되고 우리의 삶의 방식이 언제나 샬롬, 평화, 쌀람이 되게 하소서! 아멘.
